Arsenal have no interest in signing Christian Eriksen this winter as they are reportedly prioritising a move for a centre-back instead.

Eriksen, 28, has made just three starts for Inter Milan since the start of the season and the former Tottenham midfielder is looking for an escape route out of the San Siro, with Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund both monitoring the situation.

And while Arsenal have been offered the chance to land Eriksen, there have been no discussions over a potential deal for the Denmark international ahead of the January transfer window.

According to The Daily Star, Mikel Arteta and Arsenal have decided to focus their efforts on strengthening in central defence – despite the side’s problems seemingly being at the opposite end of the pitch.

Only Spurs have conceded fewer goals (9) than Arsenal (10) in the Premier League this term while the the Gunners have scored just nine times in the top flight, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s struggles becoming a real concern.

But Arsenal are planning for the future at the back given Sokratis Papastathopoulos, David Luiz and Shkodran Mustafi are all out of contract in 2021.

There are also questions marks over William Saliba, who is still yet to play a competitive match for the north London outfit.

The report claims Merih Demiral is firmly on Arsenal’s radar, with club scouts keeping close tabs on the centre-half’s performances for Juventus this season.

However, Juve would be reluctant to sanction a move for the 22-year-old Turk midway through their campaign and it’s likely Arsenal will be forced to look elsewhere.

Kevin Campbell clearly disagrees with Arsenal’s stance on Eriksen and urged his former club to make a move for the ‘superb’ Dane, despite his previous ties to Tottenham.

‘Christian Eriksen played for the rivals but we all know the quality he possesses, that is for sure,’ the ex-Arsenal forward told Football Insider earlier this week.

‘It is not quite working out for him at Inter Milan right now and I am sure he would be a good addition to Arsenal’s squad.

‘I do not care if he played for Spurs – he is a superb player who can bring something to the table for Arsenal.’
