Saliba is unhappy with his situation at Arsenal and is keen to leave the club in January, according to reports in France.

The 19-year-old was signed in a £27 million deal from Saint-Etienne but after joining the Gunners in the summer he is yet to make his competitive debut.

Arsenal were willing to loan Saliba to a Championship club for the remainder of the season but a move has failed to materialise.

Saliba is regularly playing for Arsenal’s Under-23s but it Mikel Arteta appears to consider the defender a long way off a regular first-team role.

Saliba’s chances of playing time were hindered even further last month when Arteta left the 19-year-old out of Arsenal’s Europa League squad.

According to But! Football Club in France, Saliba is ‘fed up’ of his situation at Arsenal and is now looking for a move away in the next transfer window.

The report claims that Saliba is open to the idea of returning to Saint-Etienne, having spent last season on loan at his boyhood club before moving to Arsenal.

Saint-Etienne are also keen on re-signing Saliba and the French club’s hierarchy were ‘disappointed’ that they were unable to bring him back in the summer window.

Speaking about Saliba’s situation, Arteta said: ‘He’s in a much better place.

‘He’s feeling a lot more confident around the place, his language is improving and he’s starting to understand much better what we’re doing physically.

‘He’s played a few games with the under-23s which he needed because he didn’t play any football in the last seven or eight months. Things are progressively getting better and better.’
