Angry Arsenal supporters have criticised their former player Theo Walcott for celebrating his goal for Southampton in Wednesday’s Premier League clash at the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta’s side, already under intense pressure after a dismal start to the campaign in the English top flight, got off to the worst possible start as Walcott was put through by Che Adams in the 18th minute.

The 31-year-old England forward, who spent 12 years with the Gunners, kept his cool and dinked the ball over Bernd Leno to open the scoring before wheeling off and celebrating with his Saints team-mates on his old stomping ground.

Walcott couldn’t hide his delight after breaking the deadlock and was smiling from ear to ear as Ralph Hasenhuttl’s players swarmed around him at an eerily quiet Emirates.

Unsurprisingly, Walcott’s reaction did not go down too well with fans of the north London club, who vented their fury on Twitter and accused the attacker of showing a lack of respect after the strike.
