Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang may have returned to the scoresheet in Arsenal’s hard-fought 1-1 draw with Southampton but Frank Leboeuf was still hugely frustrated by the striker.

Aubameyang coolly slotted past Saints goalkeeper Alex McCarthy to draw his side level after Theo Walcott’s cute dink put Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side in front and they held on despite Gabriel Magalhaes getting sent off.

For large parts of the game, Mikel Arteta’s outfit were second best and Leboeuf was particularly annoyed with the contributions of their captain.

And the former Chelsea centre-half felt the forward was neither ‘running’ nor ‘fighting’ for his team.

‘I’m going to name one because I like him,’ Leboeuf told ESPN.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before he scored the goal, I was wondering what he was doing on the field.

‘He scored the goal because of a fantastic Saka dribble and giving a very lucky pass to somebody else because I think it was for Aubameyang and it ended up going to Aubameyang’s feet and he scored the goal.

‘But otherwise, I want to know what’s going wrong with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

‘We all said during the summer it was the best transfer because he signed again for the Gunners but since then, nothing.

‘Nothing but it’s not only that he doesn’t show what he’s capable of, it’s because he is not running, he is not fighting.

‘He has the armband, he has to show example, the example is not showed because he doesn’t even run.

‘I want him to understand and it’s maybe why I’m going to say that because it’s going to be relayed by the press, “Frank Leboeuf criticised Aubameyang”- yeah, it’s because I love you, man.

‘So do the job. Start running, start fighting with your team-mates. If you want Arsenal to be saved at the end of the season.’
