Arsenal legend Ian Wright has urged Emile Smith Rowe and Joe Willock to grasp their opportunity at the Emirates before it’s too late.

Willock has been handed game time in recent weeks as Mikel Arteta looks for a solution to his side’s lack of creativity in midfield.

With Thomas Partey out, Dani Ceballos has come back into the midfield but the Spaniard has failed to impress in the Gunners’ rigid system and there are increasing calls for Arteta to turn to Arsenal’s youngsters, who he’s largely left for Europa League duty.

Arsenal have made their worst ever start to a Premier League campaign, making for a difficult environment for youngsters to break into the side.

But Wright believes the likes of Willock and Smith Rowe need to capitalise on the performances of their team-mates to cement their futures at the club.

‘You know something, even with Ceballos, I’m starting to feel you look at Mikel and I’m thinking… Emile Smith-Rowe, Joe Willock, these guys at some stage have got to [step up],’ Wright told the Ringer.

‘Have you [Arteta] have the talk with them to say, ‘look at this team, look at where we are at the moment as a football club’.

‘If you can’t recognise that this is your moment to come, then it’s not going to happen.

‘Frank [Lampard] just went [to Mason Mount] ‘get those water wings off, get in’.
