Kieran Tierney says Arsenal’s recent string of defeats have been ‘very frustrating’ but insists that the team are ‘100 per cent’ behind Mikel Arteta’s project.

The Spanish boss guided the Gunners to FA Cup glory last season, but the new campaign has not lived up to expectations.

Arsenal go into Sunday’s north London derby against bitter rivals Spurs in 14th place in the table after picking up just 13 points from their opening 10 league games.

Recent home defeats to the likes of Leicester City, Aston Villa and Wolves on Sunday have been particularly stinging.

But Tierney admitted that while results have been poor, the squad are convinced that Arteta is taking them in the right direction.

‘It’s been very frustrating. We want to win these games if we want to be competing up at the top of the table,’ the Gunners left-back told the Fotboll Podcast.

‘You need to win them. We’ve had a few good results as well, there are positives.

‘As I’ve said before, it’s not something that’s just going to change overnight and click but it’s something where we’re all sure that we’re going in the right direction, we all believe that 100 per cent.’

The Gunners have scored just 10 league goals this season with Arteta yet to settle on his preferred system or starting XI.

However, Tierney believes no drastic changes are needed to get Arsenal firing in front of goal again.

‘We know we need to score more goals, the league table doesn’t lie about that stuff,’ the Scotland international added.

‘It’s not as if we need to change anything drastic. What we’re doing in training is the right things, it just needs to click in one game and I’m sure it’ll come soon.’
