Tony Adams was left frustrated by Hector Bellerin’s lack of defensive discipline in Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby and believes the Spaniard needs to ‘learn his job’.

Adams, the former Arsenal centre-back, watched on as his old side were ripped apart on the break by Jose Mourinho’s Spurs, with Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane both getting themselves on the scoresheet.

The result saw Spurs return to the top of the Premier League and left Arsenal floundering in 15th, having lost six of their opening 11 matches this season.

Adams took aim at the Arsenal defence as a whole for their ‘naivety’ but honed in on Bellerin as a major problem for Mikel Arteta to deal with.

He told Premier League Productions: ‘You’ve got Cedric in from Southampton, what’s that recruitment going on?

‘You need someone who is better than Hector. Or if you think that Hector is, then work with him.

‘Don’t get him on the right wing, say sit there morning and afternoon with the kid and make him a full-back.

‘He’s no better or no worse than Lee Dixon when he came to the club, Hector Bellerin.

‘We had little Lee Dixon, he was up that right wing playing like a right winger. I went, “Oi Dicko, come here. Sit here, learn your job. First and foremost, stop that ball going in that back of the net”.

‘Where was Hector when the first goal went in? He was up the pitch!

‘Do your job first. Learn how to be a good defender, keep clean sheets and take it from there.’
