Norwich City boss Daniel Farke has rebuffed questions surrounding Arsenal target Emi Buendia’s future, though anticipates the Argentine will be a hot topic come January.

Buendia enjoyed a strong maiden campaign in the Premier League last season despite Norwich’s relegation and it was a big surprise when no top-flight sides managed to prise him away from Carrow Road over the summer.

No attacker made more tackles (82) than Buendia last season, while he also created the fourth-most chances behind only Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The 23-year-old has continued his good form in the Championship this season, scoring three goals and laying on four assists in addition to his usual tenacious pressing.

Having exiled Mesut Ozil, Arsenal have been crying out for a player of Buendia’s ilk and have struggled to create chances, scoring just once from open play in their last nine hours of Premier League football.

Recent reports have suggested they are looking at Buendia and hope to tempt Norwich into selling in January, though the Canaries are believed to want as much as £25million.

Norwich boss Farke spent much of the summer batting away speculation surrounding his playmaker – with Leeds and Aston Villa among the teams also linked with him – and he anticipates doing the same in the January transfer window.

Asked about the rumoured interest from Arsenal in Buendia, Farke replied: ‘No comment from our side. I had this for three months.

‘I will probably have to speak every day in January about these things. So I am not going to add to speculation in this period.’

Buendia has made no secret of his desire to return to English football’s top-flight, though Norwich are well placed to win immediate promotion back to the Premier League.

‘I always say that I want to play at the best level,’ he explained earlier this year. ‘I think the best league is the Premier League. I am one step back from the Premier League so obviously I want to play there as soon as possible.’
