Thomas Partey insists he has no regrets over joining Arsenal and is confident, despite recent results, that Mikel Arteta is ‘building something special’ at the north London club.

The Ghana international joined the Gunners in the summer after the £45million release clause in his Atletico Madrid contract was triggered during the closing hours of a frantic deadline day.

Partey delivered a man of the match performance during what appeared to be a landmark victory at Manchester United at the start of November, but Arsenal have failed to win a Premier League since, while the 27-year-old’s own progress has been hindered by a thigh strain.

After missing four games in all competitions, Partey returned to the starting line-up for Sunday’s north London derby but he limped off at the end of the first-half just as Harry Kane was doubling Tottenham’s advantage.

While Arsenal are currently languishing in 15th place, Atletico have flourished despite Partey’s departure with Diego Simeone’s men currently topping La Liga.

Despite the contrasting fortunes of his current and former teams, Partey maintains he made the right decision to sign for Arsenal

‘Being part of the Arsenal family is something incredible for me, since the day I arrived I have felt so supported,’ Partey wrote on Instagram.

‘The coach had a great influence in my decision to join this team and even though we had some bad results I know we are building something good together.

‘I have had the bad luck to suffer an injury but I hope I can play again soon and fight for this team.’
