Mikel Arteta has made four changes to his Arsenal side for their Premier League clash with Southampton, with Willian one of the players dropping out.

The Brazil international, who joined Arsenal from Chelsea this summer has come under fire for his recent lacklustre displays and was defended by technical director Edu this week.

He joins Alexandre Lacazette on the bench, while the suspended Granit Xhaka and Hector Bellerin are out of the squad completely.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Dani Ceballos, Nicolas Pepe and Eddie Nketiah are all included in the starting XI.

Their opponents Southampton are unchanged from a 3-0 win over Sheffield United at the weekend.

Arsenal are on a run of five Premier League matches without a win since beating Manchester United 1-0 on November 1.

Southampton XI: McCarthy, Walker-Peters, Vestergaard, Bednarek, Bertrand, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Armstrong, Walcott, Ings, Adams

In that period they have lost four of their five league matches, with a draw with Leeds their only positive result.

Aston Villa, Wolves, Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley have all beaten Arteta’s side, leaving them 15th in the table

They are five points ahead of Fulham, who occupy the third spot in the relegation zone and 12 behind league leaders Tottenham Hotspur.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Southampton are currently sat fourth in the table after a fast start to the season and could go top with a win.

They are 10 points clear of Arsenal before kick off but have not beaten the Gunners away from home in the league since November 1987.
