Arsenal are keeping an eye on Ivan Toney’s progress at Brentford with the Gunners harbouring questions over Alexandre Lacazette’s long-term future at the Emirates, according to reports.

Toney has notched an impressive 16 goals in 22 Championship games for the Bees this season since making the switch from League One side Peterborough back in the summer.

The Express claim that the 24-year-old striker has attracted interest from Arsenal, who will continue monitoring him over the coming months.

The report states that with the limited transfer budget available at the north London club, bringing in a striker isn’t on the agenda at this current moment in time.

But looking at the long-term picture, Arsenal are said to have doubts over incumbent No.9 Lacazette’s future with his contract due to expire in the summer of 2022.

The Frenchman’s form has been patchy over past seasons, but he has stepped up to score the majority of his side’s goals with the usually potent Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struggling to find the back of the net.

Lacazette has seven Premier League goals to his name this term and has played a vital role in Arsenal’s recent resurgence.

The Express say that Lacazette, who was targeted by multiple top European clubs last summer, is still appreciated by Arteta.

However, should the 29-year-old move on, the Gunners may find it difficult to replace him with an elite striker without the benefit of Champions League football, which could make Toney a more viable option.

Arsenal’s winning streak came to an end on Thursday as they were held to a goalless draw by a stubborn Crystal Palace side at the Emirates.

The Gunners have the chance to improve on their position of 11th in the table when they host Newcastle on Monday night.
