Arsenal star Bukayo Saka admits he was blown away by Aston Villa captain and Manchester United transfer target Jack Grealish when he started training with England.

Saka began training with the England senior team in October 2020 and made his international debut in the 3-0 victory over Wales that month.

The 19-year-old admits he was ‘nervous’ to join up with his international team-mates for the first time but says they quickly made him feel ‘comfortable’ and part of the squad.

Saka also says he was surprised by the ability of Grealish, who has established himself as one of the stars of the Premier League over the last two seasons and a transfer target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright asked Saka on an episode of A Family Thing: ‘When you see them in the flesh, you think to yourself, “my God man, that guy can play”. Who was that guy in the England squad for you?’

Saka responded: ‘For me, it’s Jack Grealish, wow!’

The Gunners and England star added: ‘I was nervous you know [when he got called up].

‘When I first went there, seeing the big names that I used to watch on TV, but to be fair, they all made me feel like I was one of them, which helped me a lot.

‘As soon as I came they welcomed me, they spoke to me, that helped my settle quickly and now I feel comfortable in the squad.’

Speaking to Wright, Saka also discussed the special connection he has with several Arsenal team-mates who he came through with at the academy.

‘We all just came though the same path, we came up together with the same coaches so even if I’m on the bench, to see someone like Emile [Smith Rowe] out there scoring it just puts a smile on my face,’ he added.
