Borussia Dortmund are only prepared to send Arsenal target Julian Brandt out on loan this month, according to reports in Germany.

Arsenal technical director Edu recently underlined Mikel Arteta’s ‘need’ for a ‘player with creativity’ after the club’s immensely disappointing start to the campaign and Emiliano Buendia, Isco, Marcel Sabitzer, Joan Jordan and Brandt have all been heavily linked.

Widespread reports coming out of Germany suggest out-of-favour attacking midfielder Brandt is firmly on the Gunners’ radar and the 24-year-old is said to be ‘tempted’ by the prospect of a switch to north London.

However, Bild claim Dortmund have no plans to cash in on Brandt this winter and are only willing to sanction a temporary move for the Germany international if they receive a lucrative offer before the January transfer deadline.

It’s understood Dortmund officials remain hopeful Brandt will make a breakthrough at the club, despite him so far failing to live up to expectations following a high-profile €25million (£22.5) switch from Bayer Leverkusen back in 2019.

Speaking to Kicker earlier this week, Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc admitted he was aware of the rumours surrounding Brandt but played down speculation he could be set to join Arsenal.

‘I read that too, I can’t say more about it,’ Zorc said.

‘Nobody has contacted us and there is nothing on the table – and not even in the fax machine.’

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has reassured fans he will be working closely with club chiefs over potential reinforcements for the second half of the season.

But removing excess baggage from the squad remains the Spaniard’s ‘priority’ this January.

‘A lot of things that should have happened in the summer we could not accomplish them for different reasons,’ the Arsenal boss said ahead of the side’s win over West Brom.

‘There are a lot of players that are going to go on loan. They are going to leave.

‘That’s the priority at the moment because we cannot sustain the numbers that we have in certain positions. We are looking to do that.

‘And then we will see if we have the right opportunities in the positions that we need some more help we are working with the club to try to address them.’
