Granit Xhaka has detailed the many key qualities Thomas Partey brings to Arsenal after the midfielder’s return to the starting XI for Monday night’s 3-0 win over Newcastle.

The Gunners activated the Ghana international’s £45million release clause on deadline day, but his start to life at the Emirates has been hampered by injuries.

Partey’s two separate thigh issues have resulted in him making a total of just nine appearances for the side so far this season.

But the 27-year-old impressed upon his return as Arsenal comfortably beat the Magpies to extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to six games.

And Xhaka was effusive in his praise of his midfield partner and believes Partey will play a vital role for the Gunners moving forward.

‘You can see he [Partey] brings a lot of experience and a high level,’ said Xhaka.

‘He wins a lot of duels. He is so good with the ball.

‘It is so important to have one guy like him, because the experience that he brings is so important for this young team.’

Mikel Arteta also heaped praise on Partey’s impact on the side and admitted he can see him adopting a more attacking role than he had at previous club Atletico Madrid.

‘We have been missing Tommy and he has this presence, this aura, that makes him a special player for us,’ said Arteta.

‘Hopefully we can keep him fit because we can all see the difference he makes on the side and I think he was growing and getting better and better as the game was growing and evolving.

‘Yes, he can [have more attacking freedom here than at Atletico Madrid], technically he is more than capable of doing that and he’s great in both transitional moments as well.

‘It will take him some time to understand a different way of thinking or doing [things] than what he was doing with the previous team he was involved in. He has all the characteristics that we need to make us better, that’s for sure.

‘His dynamism, his physicality, his creativity and the presence that nature has given him. You have that person on the pitch and you are able to dominate a game when it is needed and Thomas has this quality.’
