Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil’s looming transfer to Fenerbahce is getting ever closer with the attacking midfielder already appearing to have confirmed his rather unusual shirt number.

The World Cup winner has not played for the Gunners since March last year and initially looked set to see out his contract, which expires in the summer, but has now decided to leave the Emirates this month.

Arsenal have agreed to let him leave for nothing and, according to some reports, will even make a contribution to his salary until the end of the season.

Ozil has already been teasing his move to Fenerbahce, posting an ‘egg timer emoji’ while replying to a post from the Turkish giants as well as uploading a string of photos from previous trips to Istanbul.

Now he has dropped another big hint by appearing to reveal his rather unorthodox shirt number choice.

Despite wearing the number 10 for much of his career – and even creating a brand, M10, which incorporates it – Ozil has opted to go down a more sentimental route this time.

With the number 10 already taken by Aston Villa loanee Mbwana Samatta, Ozil has opted for the number 67 and posted his choice alongside a heart emoji on Twitter.

Although it might seem like a random choice, it actually has special significant for Ozil and is a reference to his roots in Turkey, with his grandparents having come from the town of Zonguldak which has a postcode beginning with 67.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Ozil is in talks to leave the club, though was coy on how close a deal was to happening.

‘Well, I don’t know how close he has been before. There are some conversations going with Edu and the club at the moment, but nothing concrete yet,’ he said recently.
