Shkodran Mustafi’s agent and father says there are no ongoing discussions regarding an early termination of the Arsenal’s defender’s contract, but confirmed he won’t be at the club beyond this season.

The 28-year-old, whose current deal is due to expire at the end of June 2021, has found game time difficult to come by this term.

The arrivals of Gabriel Magalhaes and Pablo Mari has pushed Mustafi further down the pecking order of centre-backs at the club, with David Luiz and Rob Holding also ahead of him.

Reports on Monday claimed that the Germany international, who has been at the club since 2016, was in talks with Arsenal over ending his contract early.

However, Mustafi’s representative and father, Kutjim, provided some clarity on the situation and insisted the defender will depart in the summer ‘at the latest’.

‘I also read the rumours yesterday that Shkodran should terminate his contract,’ he told Transfermarkt. ‘To clarify: There are currently no discussions about a contract termination.

‘The fact is: Shkodran will leave the club in summer at the latest.’

The Gunners have had a relatively busy January transfer window so far, sending Sead Kolasinac and William Saliba out on loan, and terminating the contracts of Mesut Ozil and Sokratis.

In terms of incomings, the north Londoners are set to announce the arrival of creative midfielder Martin Odergaard, who has agreed to join from Real Madrid on a six-month loan.
