Arsenal have axed summer signing Alex Runarsson from their Europa League squad, after signing Mat Ryan on loan in January.

The icelandic goalkeeper is the biggest casualty from their squad list for European competition, with Ryan, Gabriel Martinelli and Real Madrid loanee Martin Odegaard all added to the squad.

Mikel Arteta’s side face Benfica in the last-32 later this month, travelling to the Estadio da Luz on February 18 before returning to the Emirates on February 25.

Runarsson was forced to deputise for first-choice goalkeeper Bernd Leno this week after he was sent off in a 2-1 defeat to Wolves.

Leno and Ryan are named among the goalkeeping options along with James Hillson and B-list options Karl Hein and Arthur Okwonko.

In defensive positions, Hector Bellerin, Gabriel Magalhaes, Rob Holding, Cedric Soares, Calum Chambers, Pablo Mari, Kieran Tierney and David Luiz are the first-teamers named.
