Arsenal have revealed Thomas Partey is ‘progressing well’ and will be closely monitored ahead of their clash with Manchester City this weekend.

Partey has missed Arsenal’s last two games against Benfica and Leeds United with a hamstring injury.

The Ghana international picked up the knock in the 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa on 6 February, forced off midway through the second half, but was photographed back in training at London Colney on Saturday afternoon.

And while the former Atletico Madrid midfielder was not pictured with the main group, will be assessed ahead of the visit of the Premier League leaders on Sunday.

‘Thomas is progressing well from a strain to his hamstring against Aston Villa on 6 February and will continue to be assessed ahead of Sunday’s match,’ an update from the Gunners read.

Kieran Tierney, meanwhile, returned to the Arsenal side in midweek against Benfica having missed their last five games with a calf problem.

City are 10 points clear at the summit of the Premier League thanks to a hard-fought victory over Everton in midweek and are riding a 17-match winning streak in all competitions.

‘What they have done is react to a difficult moment,’ Arteta told reporters, referring to City’s slow start to the season.

‘A big team has to do that when everyone is doubting their ability to compete again and be the team that they are.

‘They reacted in a really convincing way, all united and doing what they do best – being very consistent and winning games very comfortably.

‘I think they are the best team in Europe at the moment.

‘The way they are performing, the football they are playing and the consistency of the results, take all that and it makes them the best team.

‘So we have a big but, as well, a very exciting challenge ahead of us on Sunday.’
