Granit Xhaka sees huge potential in his midfield partnership with Tomas Partey and believe the Ghana international will play a vital role in Arsenal rising up the table.

Partey has started 10 times for Arsenal this season since his arrival from Atletico Madrid with a string of injury problems disrupting his debut campaign in England.

Six of those starts in the league have come alongside Xhaka in the heart of midfield with the duo showing promise before another minor injury setback sidelined the new signing in early February.

The Swiss international however is confident the partnership will continue to flourish, insisting Partey helps bring the best out him.

‘It is a shame we have not played a lot together, because he has had two big injuries. But the games we have played together, I think he looks very good, very solid,’ Xhaka told Arsenal’s official website.

‘We are very good together, not only on the pitch but off it as well.

‘He is a lovely guy, he is improving our team because you can see how much experience he has at this level, and this is good for my game as well.

‘As well, the other midfielders in the team are improving step by step and the important thing is that we can see and we can feel we are improving and we have to keep going like this and let’s see what we can take from the end of the season.’

Partey has missed his side’s last three games due to a hamstring injury that forced him off during the 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

The midfielder is ‘very close’ to his return, according to Mikel Arteta, and is in contention to feature against Benfica on Thursday night and Leicester City on Sunday.
