Former Juventus manager Max Allegri has been offered the chance to manage Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, but has rejected them all, according to his friend and veteran Italian manager Giovanni Galeone.

Allegri has been out of management since leaving Juventus at the end of the 2018/19 season, but has been arguably the most in-demand out-of-work boss in world football since then.

Having won five Serie A titles with Juve, and one previously with AC Milan, Allegri has been approached by some of the biggest clubs in Europe since he left the Turin giants.

Galeone, who managed the likes of Udinese, Napoli, Pescara and Ancona in an epic 30-plus-year managerial career, says it was family reasons that saw Allegri turn down most of those jobs.

However, he was keen to take the Real Madrid role, but having just turned down other jobs, felt he could not appear to be a ‘clown’ and take another position shortly after.

‘The reason is simple: due to some serious family problems with his mother, he had to say no to major clubs,’ Galeone told Radio Kiss Kiss.

‘Max has said no to Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid. Now he wants to go back and he wants a first-class club. He also rejected PSG.

‘He rejected Real because he had previously declined the clubs already mentioned. I said to him: “But how can you reject such an important club?”

‘Max’s response surprised me: “‘I’m not a clown. If I said no to other clubs, I can’t accept another offer after only ten days, I’m not a clown.'”

‘Allegri is an honest man, a gentleman and a great professional.’

The 53-year-old will remain in the frame for any big jobs that become available across Europe this summer and, according to Galeone, is now ready to take up a position should it be offered.
