Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn feels Mikel Arteta ‘isn’t comfortable’ with his options at right-back and expects the situation to be addressed in the summer transfer window.

Hector Bellerin and Cedric are the Gunners’ two main right-backs, while the versatile Calum Chambers has also been used there in recent games.

Speculation that Arsenal stalwart Bellerin is keen on a move away from the Emirates has resurfaced in recent months, and the north London club have also been linked with the likes of Tariq Lamptey, Max Aarons and Achraf Hakimi as potential replacements for the Spaniard.

Meanwhile, Cedric, 29, was brought in from Southampton in January 2020 on an initial loan move which was then made permanent the following summer.

The Portugal international has competed with Bellerin and also filled in at left-back when Kieran Tierney was injured earlier in the season.

But Winterburn feels that Arteta rotating his right-backs suggests the Gunners boss isn’t fully satisfied with the players he has in the position.

‘The right-back position is the interesting one at Arsenal,’ Winterburn told Genting Bet.

‘When you look at the switching of players in that position, you can see that Arteta isn’t comfortable with who he has so I expect that to be addressed in the summer.

‘Arsenal have been linked with the likes of Hakimi and Lamptey. Whether they’re good enough or not for the club can only be decided once they’ve played 20-30 games.

‘It doesn’t matter what they’ve achieved beforehand, they’re coming to a new league, club and environment so will need to prove themselves.

‘I’m not sure of the reasons why Bellerin is in and out of the team. He’s obviously been struggling since the return from that big injury and he’s always had those links with Barcelona

‘The fact that Arsenal have been linked with players in his position suggest that either Bellerin is looking for his next opportunity at Barcelona or that Arteta isn’t happy with him in that role. I’d imagine it is a combination of both.’
