Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves believe Manchester United are the clear favourites to win the Europa League this season.

United booked their place in the quarter-finals thanks to a 2-1 aggregate win over AC Milan, with Paul Pogba coming off the bench to score the decisive goal for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

They join Arsenal, Roma, Ajax, Granada, Dinamo Zagreb, Slavia Prague and Villarreal in Friday’s draw – with Tottenham and Rangers the high-profile causalities on Thursday.

United reached the semi-finals of the competition last season and the club’s former midfielders place them as heavy favourites to go all the way this time – naming Arsenal and Roma as the two sides most capable of halting them.

Hargeaves told BT Sport: ‘ United are the best team, with the upmost respect to everyone else.

‘They are the favourites and they should be the favourites. Arsenal, Roma, maybe. They are all here for a reason, they are good teams, but United have the most talent. If they can put the pieces of the puzzle together they should win this if it goes according to plan.

‘I’m sure Arsenal and Roma will disagree but I think anyone watching will realise United have the strongest squad left in the competition.’

Scholes also believes United have the squad capable of winning the trophy for a second time but insists the club’s atititude will be the defining factor.

‘ United have the best squad by far left in the competition.

‘I think it’s all down to attitude now. If their attitude is right going into any of these games they should win these games without a shadow of a doubt.

‘If they get the attitude right from the quarter-finals onwards they should win this competition.’
