Erik Lamela scored a goal of the season contender for Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby – and left his team-mate Sergio Reguilon in disbelief.

Lamela started the game on the bench but was brought on inside the opening 20 minutes for the injured Son Heung-Min, who looked to have pulled his hamstring.

The Argentina international made a big impact less than 15 minutes later.

With the ball laid back to him from Lucas Moura after a low Reguilon cross, Lamela put his left foot behind his right for a rabona, which nutmegged Thomas Partey and went beyond Bernd Leno into the bottom corner of the Arsenal goal.

Reguilon was stunned by what he saw and quickly put his hands to the back of his head to express his complete disbelief at the outrageous goal on such a big occasion.

Spurs’s joy didn’t last too long, however. Martin Odegaard levelled things just before half-time.

Tottenham full-back Matt Doherty was beaten too easily by Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney, who pulled it across the goal for the Real Madrid loanee who stroked it home.

Former Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison was stunned by the audacity of Lamela’s opener.

‘I can’t believe what I’ve just witnessed. It’s one of the goals on the season,’ he told BBC Sport.

‘It is a superb, superb, top-quality finish. It is world class!’

Jamie Redknapp also described it as ‘world class’ on Sky Sports and said it was one of the best goals he’s seen in the Premier League era.
