Arsenal could be without four senior players for Saturday’s Premier League match against Liverpool.

The Gunners hopes of qualifying for Europe next season hinge on making progress in the Europa League, but Mikel Arteta hinted he would still field his strongest possible XI against the reigning champions this weekend.

Arsenal are in action again on Thursday against Slavia Prague in the first leg of their quarter-final tie, so Arteta could be forgiven for taking a cautious approach with the likes of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe.

Saka was forced to pull out of the England senior squad with a hamstring strain, while Smith Rowe was injured with the Under-21s and both players will be assessed ahead of tomorrow’s game.

David Luiz, however, will miss out after he, according to Arsenal’s official website, reported a feeling of discomfort in his right knee.

In the Brazilian’s absence, the likes of Rob Holding, Calum Chambers and Pablo Mari will vie for a place at the heart of Arsenal’s defence alongside Gabriel.

Arsenal could also, meanwhile, be without Granit Xhaka who missed Friday’s training session through sickness.

The Switzerland international, aside from one aberration against Burnley, has been in solid form of late and would be missed should he be unable to recover in time.

Mohamed Elneny, who scored for Egypt during the international break, would represent the obvious replacement, while Dani Ceballos offers a more creative alternative.
