Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp plans to speak to Curtis Jones over his angry reaction in the aftermath of England Under-21s exit from the European Championships against Croatia.

Jones was on the score sheet as Aidy Boothroyd’s side took a two goal lead that would have sent them through to the knockout stages only for a late Croatia goal to eliminate them on goal difference.

Jones was sent off after the final whistle following scuffles with the celebrating Croatia players with the Liverpool midfielder having to be restrained by teammates and staff.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Klopp was convinced his player had been provoked into his angry response and believes he will learn from the mistake.

‘I will speak to him of course. But it’s how it is. You don’t want to see these things on the pitch,’ Klopp said ahead of Saturday’s clash with Arsenal.

‘We all know that in a moment where you lose a game and it obviously meant a lot to the boys, it meant especially a lot to Curtis, he played a really good game, he was maybe the best player.’

‘If the other team hasn’t done anything I’m sure Curtis wouldn’t have reacted so there were some words or signs or whatever but still Curtis didn’t behave right in that moment, he knows that.

‘If you ask him if he would do it again he would say no, but he did it. But that’s it. As far as I know, it was not that bad.

‘It’s ok, I will speak to him, the only thing you do about the mistakes you make in life is learn from it and he will.’
