Mikel Arteta still intends to sit down with Dani Ceballos to discuss a permanent move to Arsenal despite the on-loan midfielder hinting that he wants a return to La Liga.

The Real Madrid loanee has spent the past two seasons in north London but made it clear in an interview with Spanish radio station Onda Cero this week that he wants to firmly resolve the speculation around his future and will not entertain another loan.

Despite enjoying his time at Arsenal, Ceballos also revealed that he feels La Liga is ‘better for my style of play than the Premier League’, suggesting his preference is a return to Spain.

Arteta has not given up hope of turning Ceballos’ loan stay into a permanent one, however, and intends to sit down with his compatriot once the season is over.

Asked about Ceballos’ comments and whether a decision has been made over his Arsenal future, Arteta replied: ‘No, we mentioned to you guys and at the end of the season [we will discuss that].

‘We have a lot to play for yet and I don’t want any distractions.

‘We will sit with him. We are always in contact and communication with the players and agents to know what their feelings are.

‘And at the end we have to make a common decision towards what is the best for the club and the player.’

Arsenal have been engulfed in speculation surrounding the ownership of the club recently but Arteta insists Stan Kroenke and KSE are committed to the club and suggested they will back his transfer plans this summer as he looks to turn the Gunners back into contenders.

He continued: ‘Well a lot of talks and a lot of speculation has been surrounding the situation the last week or so. Our fans raised their voices during the match against Everton but now we have a very clear and committed statement from the ownership and I think [the speculation] is gone.

‘When they say what they said last night and show the commitment and the desire to take the team where we all want, I think it’s very clear that we are moving forward.’

Arteta added: ‘They are fully excited and committed to this project and they really want to push everybody to do what we want to do.’
