Newcastle United will have to pay at least £20million to sign Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock this summer.

The 21-year-old has scored seven goals in 13 appearances for the Magpies since joining them on loan in January for the remainder of the season.

Steve Bruce is understandably keen to sign the England U21 international on a permanent basis but he’s unsure how much money he’ll have to spend in the summer transfer market.

Arsenal are relaxed about Willock’s future as they feel the midfielder has shown he has the quality to become a regular in the Premier League, be it at St James’ Park or at the Emirates next term.

However, with the Gunners needing to raise funds for their own moves this summer, the club are increasingly likely to cash in on Willock and the Telegraph claim the club want £20m from Newcastle.

It remains to be seen whether the Magpies are willing to fork out that much but Arsenal are well within their rights to demand that given Willock’s performances in the north-east.

It’s suggested that Arsenal could even demand more for Willock but given the midfielder’s desire to move to the north-east permanently, they could price Newcastle out of a move by asking for more.

Speaking after a 1-0 win against Sheffield United on Wednesday when he bagged his seventh goal for the club, Willock suggested he wanted to stay at the club.

‘I want to say thank you for making me feel so welcome and thank you for greeting me with open arms,’ said Willock.

‘I hope you’re satisfied with what I’ve given for the club so far and hopefully there’s more to continue in the future. I’m not going to promise anything, but the conversation is going to be held.

‘To make history at this special club is special for me. I came here on loan to help the team and it’s turned into a brilliant story.’
