Former defender Jose Enrique believes four teams – Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea – can win the Premier League next season and has ruled Arsenal and Tottenham out of the title race.

This season, Pep Guardiola’s Man City stormed to the title with three matches remaining, pulling away from second-placed Man United and top-four contenders Chelsea, Leicester City and Liverpool.

It was Manchester City’s third Premier League title in four years and the seventh time they have finished top of the English football pyramid.

Ex-Liverpool and Newcastle United star Enrique rates Man City as the favourites to win the Premier League next season but expects Liverpool, Man United and Chelsea to mount genuine title bids.

‘Manchester City have dominated the Premier League this season, but I think it will be a lot closer next year,’ said Enrique, speaking to Ladbrokes at its launch of the 5-A-Side Bet on Liverpool v Crystal Palace.

‘I still expect them to be favourites to win the title, but Chelsea have improved under Thomas Tuchel and we know they’ll spend big again in the summer.

‘Man United can be up there too if they sign the right players in the transfer window, and Liverpool will hopefully be back challenging for top spot again.

‘I don’t see Arsenal or Tottenham being close at all, so it will be between those four teams I mentioned above.

‘If I had to pick one team, I’d have to say Man City. Liverpool can absolutely challenge, but it’s Man City’s title next season if Liverpool don’t spend big.’

One of Enrique’s former clubs, Liverpool, are in prime position to secure an unlikely top-four finish ahead of the final day of the season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side, who won the title in 2020, have endured a difficult campaign and Enrique says it would be a ‘miracle’ if they finished in the top four.

Klopp: Insane that Liverpool have climbed into a Champions League spot

‘If Liverpool finish in the top four, given everything that’s happened this season, I believe it’s nothing short of a miracle,’ he added.

‘Given how bad the team have performed at times, for whatever reason that may be, I’m telling you it will go down as a miracle.

‘It’s so big for the future of the club because the club needs Champions League football in order to attract top players.’
