Ian Wright believes Kurt Zouma was Chelsea’s ‘weakness’ in their 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Wednesday evening.

The Gunners sealed a narrow win at Stamford Bridge after Emile Smith Rowe capitalised on Jorginho’s poor back pass to score the game’s only goal in the first half.

Chelsea were without Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen for the match so Thomas Tuchel opted to play Zouma on the left side of his three-man defence with Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta.

And Wright believes Zouma looked ‘nervous’ in that role due to his indecisiveness on the ball in the build up to Arsenal’s winning goal.

‘The thing is I think Kurt Zouma is somebody who you should put pressure on, especially playing on the left-hand side of the defence,’ Wright told Premier League Productions.

‘He’s not comfortable, he looks very nervous and that’s what Arsenal did. We saw it, he’s saying he needs options but he’s got options.

‘He had a couple of opportunities in this move and I think the pressure they put on him to make him have to play back to Jorginho who was then rushed by Emile Smith Rowe saw his opportunity and that’s how Arsenal got their goal.

‘But I always saw him as a weakness, Kurt Zouma.’

Glenn Hoddle, who was working as a pundit alongside Wright, added: ‘If that ball goes into [Billy] Gilmour like it should have done, we’d be saying look how they played through the press and Chelsea would have been right at Arsenal.

‘The difference is that poor decision from Zouma, to go back to Jorginho. Jorginho has panicked and then all this happens.’
