Manchester United have become the first team since Arsenal’s Invincibles to finish a Premier League season unbeaten away from home following their 2-1 win over Wolves on Sunday.

Anthony Elanga netted his first senior goal for United to open the scoring at Molineux but Nelson Semedo’s equaliser pulled Wolves level.

On the stroke of half time, United were awarded a penalty following a VAR check and Juan Mata stepped up to score and restore the visitors’ lead.

United were able to hold out for the win to ensure that they finished the season without suffering a defeat on the road.

Arsenal are the only club to have achieved the same feat in the Premier League era as they finished the season unbeaten away from home in 2001/02 and in their 2003/04 Invincibles campaign.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side finished the current campaign in second place, 12 points behind champions Manchester City.

When asked about United matching Arsenal’s record, Solskjaer told BT Sport: ‘Yeah, then again our own form hasn’t been the greatest.

‘But what an achievement to go undefeated. It’s something to be proud of.’

Asked if he was happy with United’s performance on the final day of the Premier League campaign, Solskajer said: ‘Very happy, proud of them.

‘They took the ball well, created chances and got the win they deserved.

‘The pace and enthusiasm of Elanga, Amad, Dan James, then you’ve got Donny, Nema [Nemanja Matic] and Juan who have got all the experience and quality. It worked well.’
