Chelsea and Arsenal will have to produce bids of around £50million if they want to prise Jules Kounde away from Sevilla this summer.

The 22-year-old has made a rapid rise to prominence with Sevilla, who he joined in 2019 from Bordeaux in a £21m deal.

The defender’s performances this term have been exemplary, earning Kounde a spot in France’s European Championships squad.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea have shown interest in the defender but Sevilla have put themselves in a strong position to keep Kounde after finishing fourth in La Liga and qualifying for the Champions League.

That will not deter suitors in England but the Athletic claim Sevilla can now set an asking price of around £50m for Kounde.

The defender is understandably keen to play in the Champions League next term and that would appear to give Chelsea the upper hand in a straight battle with Arsenal.

David Luiz’s exit from the Emirates was confirmed last week, though William Saliba is set to return to the club next term to compete for a starting berth.

Thomas Tuchel is keen to sign a younger centre-back as Thiago Silva is likely to play a final term at Stamford Bridge before leaving.

The Blues finished fourth in the Premier League despite a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on the final day of the season.

Spurs’ 4-2 win against Leicester meant the Foxes missed out on Champions League qualification on the final day of the season for the second campaign in a row.
