Sander Berge is open to the idea of a switch from Sheffield United to Arsenal in the summer transfer window, according to reports.

Mikel Arteta is expected to overhaul his squad over the summer after a dismal season which has seen the north London club languishing in mid-table for the majority of the campaign.

The Gunners are currently down in ninth place in the Premier League table with just two games to go, meaning they face the possibility of a first season without European football in 25 years.

One of the areas Arteta is said to be looking at strengthening is central midfield, with Brighton’s Yves Bissouma and Berge some of the names touted.

Berge, who has made just 15 Premier League appearances for the Blades this term having missed large parts of the season through injury, is said to have a release clause of £35million.

According to Football.London, the 23-year-old is keen on a move to the Emirates, but any potential transfer could be tied to the future of his fellow Norway international Martin Odegaard.

Real Madrid loanee Odegaard’s situation is still up in the air, with a call yet to be made on whether his loan move at Arsenal will be made permanent in the summer.

Football.London say a source close to Berge has told them that there is a ‘high possibility’ the midfielder could join the Gunners this summer, but it ‘depends on Martin [Odegaard]’s decision’, with the pair close friends.

However, the report also states that Berge’s decision isn’t completely reliant on Odegaard staying at the Emirates, but could be pivotal if multiple clubs come calling for his signature.

Liverpool, Aston Villa and Everton are thought to be among the other Premier League clubs interested in signing the player from the relegated Blades.
