Southampton have confirmed that left-back Ryan Bertrand is set to depart from the club in the summer once his contract expires.

The 31-year-old, who has been at St Mary’s since 2014, failed to come to an agreement with the Saints over a new deal and will become a free agent.

Arsenal and Manchester City have been linked with a move for Bertrand, while there has also reportedly been interest from the likes of Serie A side AC Milan and Monaco in Ligue 1.

Addressing the defender’s situation last weekend, Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl said: ‘We are looking at other targets because the offer we have made has not been accepted from his side.

‘When there is no solution for the future, we will have to look at other options in this position.’

Arsenal are in the market for a left-back given their lack of viable options in the position beyond the currently injured Kieran Tierney.

Cedric Soares had been used there for a period of time this season before Mikel Arteta opted to put midfielder Granit Xhaka in the position.

The Gunners were particularly light in the area after sending Sead Kolasinac out on loan to Schalke in the January transfer window.

Once the 27-year-old returns to the club at the end of his loan deal, he will have just a year left on his contract.

Kolasinac is said to be one of the six players Arsenal want to offload in the summer, along with Bernd Leno, Hector Bellerin, Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi and Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
