Newly-promoted Watford are considering a move for Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah, who could be available for as little as £15m with his contract entering its final year.

The 22-year-old has made 17 Premier League appearances this season, although only four of those were starts, scoring two goals.

The England Under-21 striker was more prolific in the Europa League, making eight appearances and scoring three goals on Arsenal’s run to the semi-finals.

His contract at the Emirates ends in 2022 and the Gunners are keen to cash in on him this summer rather than see him leave on a free transfer next year.

His future appears to lie elsewhere, with regular starts in the first team at Arsenal few and far between and not looking likely to increase any time soon.

Watford are interested in bringing Nketiah to Vicarage Road, report the Mirror, and the Gunners could accept just £15m for him.

The striker would certainly expect mroe first team opportunities at Watford than he enjoys at Arsenal, but even at £15m he would be something of a gamble for the Hornets.

Nketiah’s six goals this season in all competitions is the best return of his career so far, so he has never proved himself as a prolific goal-scorer.

Even in his spell on loan in the Championship with Leeds United, when the Yorkshire club were promoted to the Premier League, he scored just three goals in 17 league games and five in 19 in all competitions.

Watford surged back into the Premier League in some style this season, finishing second with 91 points in the Championship.

They will want to add goals to their squad next season, though, with Ismaila Sarr their top scorer in the league with 13, but no one else reaching double figures in the Championship.
