John Barnes says Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey would be a ‘good signing’ for Liverpool as he is a ‘great fit’ for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The former Arsenal star won three FA Cups over an 11-year spell at the Emirates before joining Juventus on a free transfer in 2019.

Ramsey has struggled for form and fitness in Serie A as is reportedly eyeing a move back to the Premier League, though the Wales international has insisted that he plans on returning to Turin after the Euros.

But should Ramsey end up departing, Liverpool legend Barnes thinks that the tireless box-to-box midfielder would fit in seamlessly at Anfield.

‘If you look at the age of Jordan Henderson now and his fitness, then you look at Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who isn’t playing much as well as Xherdan Shaqiri, then Liverpool could be losing some midfield players so in that sense, I think Aaron Ramsey would be a good signing,’ Barnes told BettingOdds.com.

‘I think he would suit the type of player that Liverpool would want as he can get up and down the pitch, he’s a strong, all action, box-to-box footballer, which is what Liverpool want from their midfielders.

‘I don’t think he’d suit a side like Manchester City as they’d want someone like a David Silva kind of player.

‘What Aaron Ramsey offers is a great workrate, physicality, an ability to get box-to-box, humility and commitment so of course I think he’d be a great fit for Liverpool 100%.’

Liverpool have already made their first summer signing: centre-back Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.

The Reds have reached an agreement with the Bundesliga club on a deal worth £35million, and Klopp is fully aware of his quality.

‘I’m really pleased we’ve been able to add a player of Ibrahima’s quality to our squad and he is someone I’ve admired for a long time, ever since I first became aware of his potential when he was at Sochaux,’ the German boss said.

‘After the problems we had with injuries in the centre-half position last season, there’s no doubt it was clear it was an area of the team we needed to strengthen – but I first have to say that the job Nat [Phillips], Rhys [Williams] and Ozan [Kabak] did was incredible. Unbelievable really.

‘In Ibrahima we are signing a player who will add to the quality we already have here. His physical attributes are very impressive; he is quick, he is very strong and he is dominant in the air.’
