Martin Odegaard hopes to link up with Erling Haaland at Real Madrid next season.

22-year-old Odegaard spent the second half of the 2021-22 season on loan at Arsenal, making 20 appearances for the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta is keen to sign the Norway international permanently with The Athletic reporting the attacking midfielder is the manager’s primary transfer target this summer.

Odegaard was effectively deemed surplus to requirements at Real by Zinedine Zidane earlier this season, but the Frenchman’s departure last week could have a significant bearing on Odegaard’s future.

Real meanwhile are among the clutch of clubs hoping to sign Borussia Dortmund star Haaland this summer. While his own future remains uncertain, Odegaard has revealed he is eager to link up with his countryman in the Spanish capital.

The duo are currently with the Norway squad ahead of friendlies against Luxembourg and Greece.

Asked if he would like to play with Haaland at Madrid, Odegaard said: ‘Of course. I ask him sometimes about it, but he doesn’t say too much about his future. At least, nothing that he will share with you here.’

Haaland will have another chance to impress his many suitors at this summer’s Euros with the 20-year-old insisting he has made no decisions about his future heading into the competition.

When asked about his club future, Goal reports the forward as saying: ‘I have not taken a position on that.

‘After this international break I will go on vacation, and then I will report for pre-season.’.
